You'll need feminine care products when you get your period. But which products? The products you choose depends on the heaviness of your period, your level of physical activity, and personal preference (tampons vs. pads, for example). For more information on the right Kotex® products for you, check out Kotex® Products.
Pads
Pads come in various lengths and thicknesses. There are pads made for a heavy flow. There are pads made for a light flow. An adhesive backing on the pad will stick the pad to your underwear. Some pads also have wings on the side to help protect your underwear and hold the pad in place.
Pad size depends on the heaviness of your period flow and level of activity.
If your period flow is light, or you are very active during the day, you might
want to use a ultra thin pad. For overnight,
try on a longer pad that offers more protection,
since you'll be lying down and probably tossing and turning while you're sleeping.
They help keep the flow on your pad and help avoid messy leaks
on the back of your favorite pajamas or sheets.
Pantiliners
Pantiliners are very thin pads. Pantiliners have adhesive backing to hold them securely in place in your underwear. They are perfect for when your period is just beginning or just ending, when the flow is very light. They can also be used for normal discharge in between periods. Use them to keep you fresh or as a backup with a tampon to help protect against leakage.
Tampons
A tampon is an absorbent product that is placed inside the vagina to soak up menstrual fluid. Tampons are available with different levels of absorbency for heavy, medium, and light flow. Tampons are ideal to use when you want to go swimming during your period.
Kotex® Security® Tampons have a plastic applicator that makes it easy to put the tampon in. Tampons are also easy to take out. They will not get lost in your body. Each tampon has a string securely attached to it that you pull on to remove the tampon.
* Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is a rare but serious illness that has been associated with tampon use and can cause death. The reported risk of TSS is higher among teenage girls and women under 30 years of age, but it can occur at any age. If you develop a sudden fever, vomiting, diarrhea, fainting or near fainting when standing up, dizziness, or a rash that looks like sunburn, discontinue tampon use and consult a physician immediately. Read and save the information about TSS on the back of every package of KOTEX SECURITY Tampons.
Please see Questions and Answers about Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). Or, check out Important Information about Toxic Shock Syndrome.
No matter which product you use, change your protection every four to six hours. Dispose of products by wrapping them in paper and placing them in the garbage.
