All around you girls your age are changing. Suddenly, some
of your friends seem much taller. Or they have hips. Some girls
are developing breasts. Others aren't. You're changing, too.
Everybody looks different…and that's great! Everyone is going
to continue to look different as they grow at different rates
and end up with unique bodies. You may be self-conscience. And
you're probably not the only one feeling this way. Your friends
probably have some of the same feelings.
When you look at magazines, TV, or movies, and see tall,
impossibly, unbelievably, skinny, beautiful models and actresses,
you might get the message that women are "supposed" to look like
them. Forget it! Stars have their own hair people, make-up people
and stylists at their fingertips. Lights, makeup and photo touch-ups
create the "illusion" of perfection. Nobody's perfect. Most women
face the mirror every morning with only a hair dryer, curling iron
and a brush. People come in all shapes and sizes. It's a good thing.
Can you imagine if we all looked alike? Boring!
Do good things for your body and yourself during puberty. Keep clean. Get plenty of exercise and plenty of rest. Eat nutritious foods.
Taking care of yourself and respecting your body means you'll naturally feel great and look great. The most important thing is your well being. You are confident. You are a beautiful person. If you believe these things about yourself, you can develop and maintain the self-esteem to make it through puberty with a smile!
