It's been months since you've even thought about feminine protection. So here's some tips. If your baby is due soon, it's a good time to think about how to maintain proper hygiene and cleanliness. If you recently gave birth, you know the importance of being prepared. A discharge similar to a heavy menstrual flow, called lochia usually lasts two to four weeks. Try using Kotex® pads to absorb the lochia.
Your lochia is heaviest during the first few days of the involution process. Try using Kotex® Overnight Pads both day and night. They are generally the longest, most absorbent pads.
As the lochia tapers off, switch to a regular length maxi pad for daytime use and a long maxi pad for overnight use. As the lochia diminishes, try an ultra thin maxi pad; then, switch to Kotex® Lightdays® Pantiliners when the discharge is minimal and somewhat irregular.
Change your pad frequently to keep the perineum area dry. And here's something else to try. Whenever you change your pad or go to the bathroom, pour warm water over the perineum and pat dry. This keeps the area clean, promotes healing and comfort.
