Phases of Your Cycle

The idea of getting your first period may be a little scary. When will it happen? Where will it happen? Will I know what to do? These are very normal questions. Don’t worry, knowing about why it is happening and how to prepare for it is the best way to deal with it. Every woman has worried about being caught off guard by her period. The best way to avoid this is to learn about your cycle.

Once your period begins and becomes regular, keep track of the cycle on a calendar. Mark down the day it begins, how heavy the flow is each day, how many days it lasts, and how many days are between the beginning of one period and the beginning of the next. The entire menstrual cycle is, on average, about 28 days long. But some are longer and some are shorter.

Your period is the beginning of the menstrual cycle. Keep track for a few months. Pretty soon, you will know about when your period will start and you will know how to prepare for it. You’ll also get a better idea of what kind of flow (heavy or light) to expect each day of your period.

What Happens Each Month

Every month after you have your first period, a part of your brain called the pituitary gland releases a hormone that sends a message to the eggs inside the ovaries. The message is, “grow!” Every month, only one egg among all those stored in your ovaries develops fully. When that egg is fully developed, the brain releases another hormone that causes the egg to leave the ovary. When the egg leaves the ovary, that is called ovulation. Ovulation usually takes place about 13–15 days before your period begins. Count the first day of your period as the first day of your cycle.

While all this is happening, the body is preparing for a possible pregnancy. The body produces a hormone called estrogen. Estrogen’s job is to make the lining of the uterus ready for a pregnancy by becoming thicker with tissue and blood vessels that help the fertilized egg develop. This stage happens before the egg has left the ovary.

Progesterone, another hormone, causes the lining of the uterus to become even thicker in preparation for a possible pregnancy.

Meanwhile, the egg travels down one of the fallopian tubes that lead to the uterus. While in the fallopian tubes, the egg could join up with a sperm as a result of sexual intercourse.

The process in which a female egg joins a sperm is called fertilization. The fertilized egg will continue its journey down the fallopian tube to the uterus, where it will attach itself to the lining of the uterus, which is ready for its arrival. When this happens, a woman is pregnant. The fertilized egg will continue to develop into a baby.

If the egg does not meet a sperm by the time it reaches the uterus, it will dissolve and there will be no pregnancy. Because there is no fertilized egg needing nourishment, the excess lining of the uterus (extra blood and tissue), called the endometrium, is no longer needed. Your period happens when the endometrium leaves the body through the opening of the vagina.

now i know where my teacher got this chart at haha... actually she copied it word for word...!

Leelia , 6/10/2008 8:20:04 PM
hahah that was very helpful.i think i have my period, but im a virgin and im cathlic so i cant and i feel that im not a true cathlic. x

Beth, 6/12/2008 3:12:00 PM
Leelia, you sound just like the "Kaytee" on the other page. You both spell "cathlic" the same way when it is properly spelled "Catholic" so I believe you are the same person. You should find someone to talk to (ie. mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, etc.) if you have questions on your period, and not depend on total strangers to answers your questions.

To: leelia, 6/17/2008 2:54:34 PM
just bcuz u are catholic doesnt mean u cant get ur period!! (unless ur a boy!!!) and just cuz ur a virgin doesnt mean u cant get ur period!! being catholic and a virgin doesnt mean u get excused from having ur period!

sam, 6/18/2008 12:36:24 AM
beth- sometimes its hard to talk to other ppl face to face about ur menstruation...this"leelia" may perhaps be someone who feels that she can not find her voice when addressing such a delicate matter. I know first hand that it can be quite difficult to learn things about life when you can not find the answers in those closest to you. Perhaps "leelia" is insecure or shy and you should not be the one to call her out for her openness to the world. i mean this in no disrespect and am not trying to belittle you.

Rachel, 6/18/2008 2:11:43 PM
Dont worry Leelia you'll get a period no matter what!! Do boys feel are pain?

khanyi, 6/20/2008 7:29:15 AM

I have always loved your products. I have been using your tampons and pads for over 15 years. I love the security I get by using them. But, lately my last box of tampons has disappointed me. Several of the individual plastic wrappers have opened up on their own in me purse forcing me to throw them away. It is a cute new design, but the individual plastic wrap loosens up on the tampon making me not want to use them. Some of them have even opened up on their own simply by being in the box. If this problem continues with the next box that I buy I will sadly have to change brands simply because of this concern. I Love your porducts and I hope you can make your individual wrappers stronger like they were before you made the change. Thank you.

devonnn, 7/2/2008 12:26:12 PM

wow.

Brooke, 7/3/2008 2:42:04 PM
OK, I need someone's help. I've heard that when you ae ovulating, it is possible you get clear, stretchy, snotty discharge. Is that true? Cause I have it.

monica, 7/6/2008 1:11:08 PM
wow they answerd all my questions

Lori , 7/6/2008 10:00:57 PM
Leelia, having your period does NOT make you NOT a virgin, you are still a virgin if you have your period.

tayla, 7/8/2008 2:10:36 AM
HAHA @ Leelia, i feel so sorry that they would tell her such trash. If you are catholic, buddhist or whatever you will still get your period. Even if your a virgin you still will and even if your not. If you period got skipped and you have had sex, you should go to the doctor's because you could be pregnant. The only way your period will stop is if you dont have enough body fat, but this is a BAD thing.. Your body has to go through these changes and if it stops it means that you might not be able to have a child when you are older because the menstruation process might not start..

Darby, 7/8/2008 8:18:05 AM
my period sucks! it always comes at the wrong time (at school, the day before i go on vacation)! i hate it. i went to they doc and they said its imposable for me to use tampons unless i have this sugery. im really active and i need to be able to use tampons! but im scared of the surgey! has anyone had it before? any advice?

Caitlin, 7/15/2008 10:14:21 AM

im one to, but i just got my period last night
you r gonna get your . whether your virgin or not, and its not a sin or anything
a period prepares you for having a baby, but you can still be a virgin y4 whole life if you want, OK?

NuNu, 7/24/2008 3:58:51 PM
umm does any other girl feel embarrassed when they get their period and are at school? me personally i dont like to carry pocket-books(not my style) and i hate school bathrooms..and having your period suckz because its alwaysz on when you dont want it to be! uughh

amanda, 7/26/2008 1:47:02 AM
uumm well as i read this it kinda help me understand how everything works... but the only thing i want to know is that how do you know when the sperm and the egg join ? is it during the ovulation time? is it on the 13th day, the 14th day, or the 15th day?im 17 yrs old...and im trying to come out pregnant but nothing happens...., a little help please...

Mary, 7/28/2008 10:52:12 AM
to Amanda...
You're 17, and TRYING!!!??? to get pregnant???? Hello??
As a 40 something mother of two, I can tell you you *SO* do not want to have kids at your age!
Sounds like you need to be talking to a councilor ASAP!
I doubt you have ANY true concept of what having children will mean to your life. If you are RESPONSABLE, ( no dumping the kid on Mom), it means no nights out with friends; no hunting for boys, no free time for anything, no trips to the mall without having to pack like you are going on an expedition to Mt Everest....

Sarah, 7/28/2008 1:36:03 PM
this was a very good article thanks alot

ara, 7/30/2008 5:28:55 PM
I just got my first period on july 5 and now second time came already on july 28. Do others have it that short,, twice in same month

girl, 7/31/2008 12:10:27 PM
To Ara i get my period twice a month sometimes dont worry it is normal. How long was the first period? mine is sometimes 2-3 days first time around in the month 2nd time its 3-5 days

anna, 8/1/2008 2:15:15 PM
I read some of the comments on here. It doesnt matter what religon you are, it doesnt matter what race you are to get your period. If you are a female and all your organs are normal you will eventually get your period. So Leelia, if you read this you're just as much catholic when you get your period as before you get your period. Your ovaries dont discriminate!!!! (btw i am 27 and im catholic not that it matters)

softballfreak!!!!!, 8/9/2008 11:00:23 AM
I am 13 years old and have gotten my period twice, but the time between the first period and the second period took FOREVER!!!! is their something wrong with me? please help!!
Oh and what days are your heaviest when you have your period cause mine is the first 3 days is that normal??

I NEED ANSWERS A.S.A.P PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!

girly,girl, 8/13/2008 11:35:01 AM
GIRLS NOTING MATERS YOU R GETING YOURE PERIOD NO MATTER WHAT!!

Marissa, 8/13/2008 4:58:31 PM
softballfreak!!!!!, don't worry about it all. If anything, that will make it worse. Stress levels make hormones move slower, and that applies to periods the most. There is absolutely nothing wrong with you. It takes months or even years to get your period at a normal pace. The exact same thing is happening to me at this moment. Having heavy and light days depend on the person. It may be light the first few days then get heavy. Maybe the other way. Or, the whole thing might just be all light or all heavy. Don't worry if the cycle is too short or too long, this time it happens to be long. Don't sweat it, carry the essentials like pads/ pantyliners and tampons. Trust me, you'll be fine. I'm 13 also, and my first period was a while ago and I'm waiting for my second one. I really hope you don't worry because, again, it will make it later. It sounds strange and you're probably wondering how. I'm not so sure of it myself, but the only thing that matters is don't think about it so much, but be prepared. Hope it goes well :]

alyssa, 9/20/2008 12:01:25 PM
i get my period 2 times a month, but they last a long time. is that normal? please....... some help me! i am very scared and i dont feel comfortable telling my mom these things......sooo id really like advice about this situation from u... PLEASE GIVE ME ANSWERS! ASAP!

shelby, 9/26/2008 3:03:16 PM
This is to Mary. You don't know someones situation, she could be married, i married at the age of 17 and had a baby by the time i was 18, and its the life i wanted, i wanted to be a mother and a wife. :] and now i am.
Its what ive always wanted, and personally i wouldnt have it any other way.
This girl could easily be in the same situation. There are many people marrying young (i know im gonna hear it for this) and everyone thinks that thats why the divorce rate is so high, when really its because they let all those drunk people from vegas or whatever get married... And they let people get married these days without going through marriage counseling first [me and my husband went through it] you just have to accept that this is the life that someone chooses.

Also, to you catholic girls! ~ there is NOTHING wrong with getting your period, its natures natural course! :] If it wasnt meant to happen then it wouldnt.

and for those of you scared to talk to your mother, dont be!!! Just like yourself, your mother has been through what you are going through, she was your age once... and she had to have the same talk with her mother :] its going ot be fine!

For alyssa:: talk to your mother! if something is wrong then she can get you the help you need :] but if you ask strangers and they tell you differently and you DO end up having something wrong it might be harder to fix it!! Dont waste your time asking on here, talk to your mother :] she will understand!

and for nermin talk to your mother as well, it sounds like pamprin or midol might help your problem! :]

My heart goes out to all the worried girls who have irregular or missed periods because I'm in the same boat! My body doesn't feel odd or sick and everything else is working fine. However, the question remains should we tell anyone? I'm embarrassed too, but if everything else seems fine should I? Hey moms out there, what would you want your daughter to do?

Louise, 1/4/2009 8:57:39 PM
hi girls!!

as the article says.. it is normal to have irregular periods at the beggining, months or even years ( no more than 2) ...
if yo u still have irregular periods, you should ask to your Dr 'cause there are a lot of things that can cause that... stress, POS (polycystic ovary syndrome), hypotiroidism or any other hormonal disorder.... DON'T BE embarrassed! when you ask a dr, thousands of girls have asked them already that same question, it's normal for them.. see? there's no reason to be embarrased! IT'S BETTER TO ASK YOUR DR !!! it's better to be sure that there's nothing wrong with u

keya, 1/7/2009 12:14:37 PM
i got my first period may 1 2007 i tried to keep up with it buh its either the beginning of the month or the middle once in a while it will be in the end. it jumps around. i got my period again january 6 2009 and january 7 2009 theres a little bit of bleeding so i change my pad. go to sleep wake up and im not bleeding anymore but i feel really weak and back hurts. this never happened to me before. im not a virgin lost it on sept. 2008. i dont have enough iron in me could that be it ? whats wrong with me ?

to twilight, 1/8/2009 5:02:15 PM
it totaly normal to feel bloted, sore, quesy and when ever im on my period i always feel like in goin 2 puke . even when i just walk past my bathroom. But if you are feeling totaly different or you missed a period you might want to take a preg test.

emily, 1/10/2009 7:28:55 PM
I think this was a great page to look at. I am REALLY freaked about having my period but it's because my mom doesnt talk to me that much. The rest of my family is all boys, so we aren't very open about these things in my home. What do I do?

Jocelin, 1/10/2009 8:00:01 PM
omg. I'm so with you to twilight i fell the same way in the morning but i no i don need to check a pregnancy test. but yea i get really sore and bloated and I'm in pain thou out the whole day.

Cat, 1/12/2009 8:35:03 AM
Keya, don't worry about it my period recently just started to regulate after 7 years of having it and I'm 18.

Emily, it's a scary thought but its natural and it happens to everyone. I thought it was a big deal before it happened, but really you should talk to your mom yourself when you're alone with her. I'm sure she'll answer all of your questions.

jamie, 1/12/2009 12:14:36 PM
mary i dont think you should tell some one when an at what age they can get preg if they thinking there ready then hello they probley are i was ready at 16 an got preg then lost the baby an have been wanting so bad to get preg i am now 21 an have the same feeling as when i was 16

roxy, 1/18/2009 12:05:40 AM
hello to all the girls, well 1st of all I dont want to tell any one what to do,but getting preg at a early age is really hard,I got preg 16, and I had to stay home and be a mom, no more going to the mall with friends, to movies ect.. I had to think 1st on my baby diapers, milk, clothing, and see if I had any extra cash to buy me at least something small 4 me, so really thing about it if ur ready to be a mom and be responsible 4 another life that will depend on u!!!!!

If your period come's on before your 21 days are up does it mean you not ovulating?

Do you have to ovulate or can u live without it? (ovulating)

glenda, 2/4/2009 11:16:44 AM
i dont understand how this menstrual cycle goes. at times during the years the priod end s up wild and i cannot gety pregnat...why?

ray24, 2/4/2009 5:57:28 PM
to lynn and shelby
Tampons are very easy and if you can use them it will make your period a lot easier to deal with. my first experience wasnt pleasent but it was only because I wasnt relaxed. breath in and out when you try and just relax and you will be fine.
I actually ended up getting my mother to explain it to me and now tampons are all I use except when im sleeping then I use a pad.

shelby
that is very disturbing to hear you defend
planned teenage pregnacy sure if it happen it happens but a 17 yr old planning to have a baby is outrageous you should be ashamed of yourself. I hope things have worked out in your situation but i would like to hear what you have to say 10 years from now.

Daisy Mae, 2/5/2009 12:04:34 AM
This is for you weird. Ovulating is when the egg drops down into the fallopian tube and is ready to be fertilized. Just because your period is a little short one month does not mean you didn't ovulate. Every woman is different when it comes to her period.
As far as ovulating goes, every woman ovulates and just because you can't feel it (some women can... I do) doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. If you are sexually active you need to use some sort of protection i.e. birth control, condoms, abstinence... Just because you are in a relationship with one person doesn't mean you aren't being exposed to whomever the other person was with before you.
Please I urge all of the women on this site to practice safe sex!

Kaila, 2/7/2009 10:16:45 AM
what does it mean if you get it every two weeks?

Azucena Stewart, 2/8/2009 8:24:56 PM

i like having periods. it's a normal part of life; so enjoy it when you can.

Sarah, 2/21/2009 2:21:23 PM
okay. i'm 16 and i have a steady boyfriend. we were both virgins and decided to give each other everything. first time, we used a condom. then i had my period. so all was good. second time, it was on my period without protection yet he pulled out. within this last month, weve had sex 3 times with condoms without complications. i am due for a period within the next couple of days, but how likely is it that im pregnant?
help please!

Amanda, 3/7/2009 12:46:54 PM
To Francis;

Have you gone to the doctor to get everything checked out? I, like you, have always had lots of problems with my cycle and would very rarely have a cycle every month. As a teenager, my family doctor advised my mom to have me put on birth control. This helped and I would have regular cycles. After I got married and my husband and I have decided to have a baby, we got off of all contraceptive. After 2 years of trying I had a total of about 6 periods. I finally broke down and went to a fertility doctor and we determined that I had PCOS (Polycycstic Ovarian Syndrome). Now after 3 months of taking Metformin, a change of diet, and a new exercise regiment, I have had a cycle every month since December. There have been a few months where I have cycled twice, but at this point I feel like my current situation is improving and my dreams of becoming a mommy are definitey becoming something I know that will happen! Keep trying and go see your OBGYN!!

zuz, 3/11/2009 11:48:22 AM

Alisha, 3/21/2009 8:29:46 PM
Hi Aileen I am 26 years old and I have a best firend who is 27 and she and I both have bad cramps but she had pain so bad that when she would try to have sex with her husband she wouldn't be able to go on because it hurt so bad. i'm not sure why you are doing the things you are when you get your period but I am like you without insurance and yes I believe it would be very wise for you to go see a good OBGYN. My friend had her problem fixed by her doctor so YES PLEASE go see a doctor.OBGYN

Danielle, 4/8/2009 6:45:54 PM
I have recently discovered Fertility Awareness Method. Discover when you are fertile by checking out your changing vagina fluid: When it looks most like the male sperm, you are most able to facilitate the movement of sperm towards the egg and thus you probably ovulate on this day. Also by checking your temperature and cervical position.

I find it interesting the amount of emphasis placed on the non-reproductive portions of our cycle versus the full moon time- when we release a beautiful egg

Danielle, 4/8/2009 7:00:18 PM
Aileen,

You may have endometriosis.
This is an extremely painful problem.. my friend has this & I will try to decribe what happens, but you are best to search it out yourself.

In the uterus, the cells that grow and create your uterine lining during your cycle are controlled by certain hormones. When you have endometriosis, these cells end up spreading onto organs outside of your uterus. This causes EXTREME pain, and can cause you to black out, scream cry, puke etc. I think most typically this occurs on the outside of your ovaries and can occur on just one of the ovaries. Which means every other period is painful. I don't believe there is a lot of research done surrounding this issue, nor is there a known cure. There are herbal remedies and it is really important to try to elimante things like coffee, and alcohol. Pregnancy often resets your body and your periods may end up being a lot less painful after your first child.

I really sympathize with you, and I wish you had someone to talk to. Please feel free to contact me, deeproph@Hotmail.com and I will try to give you more information.

olivia, 5/3/2009 10:38:24 PM
when are you most fertile?

meyvi, 5/4/2009 8:56:31 AM
to alisha. pain does happen and to a degree is normal... however the kind you describe sounds like something a doctor should check. the health of your reproductive organs is not a ligth matter. in any case is possible you are suffering due to malnutrition. eat many green leafs(spinach, watercreast, arugula and such) try not to eat brocoly or gas producing foods during your period, vitamin b6 has help me, sunny D has it, also stay away from salty foods, greassy foods, sodas and smoking. and staring a workout regimen that stregnte your core will also help, pilates is the best for this, but yoga is also helpfull. however do not do it during your period only before and afther. but like I said at the beginig goin to the doctor is the best way. to make sure you get the best for your money I recomend you keep a diary for 3 to 6 months and write on detail any pain, mood swings, diet, excersice, sex encounters, description of flow and other discharges, so that notting is left unsaid and the doctor does not have to see you too many times wich means more money or unnecesary testing. I hope all works out well for you.

I have not had such a reliable resource such as this one, thank you for the help!!!!

Jessica, 5/24/2009 9:22:10 PM
To All:
Getting your period is a part of every woman's life. It has nothing to do with religion, virginity, or whether or not you want it. When a woman's cycle is off (for example, when you don't have a period for a days, or even months) it can be a result of many things. For instance, stress, nutrition, an active lifestyle (some athletes have very irregular periods), or even pregnancy (if you are sexually active and ONLY then). Also, a intense period (heavy) with major pain and symptoms including migranes and fainting, is just the way it is sometimes. Many doctors will prescribe a type of birth control called Yaz (even if you aren't sexually active) because it can help alleviate these symptoms and regulate a period. However, even with this information, you should never hesitate to talk to a school nurse or doctor about any of this. Wondering and stressing is not the answer.

tricia, 5/28/2009 8:48:05 AM
i'm 28 trying for a baby my cycle has been regular since i was 12 now it has skipped from 27 days to 36 any advice?

Help ):, 5/28/2009 11:54:55 AM
Me and my boyfriend kind of had sex, not really though. i'm scared I might be preganant, but i'm not sure, I'm supposed to start my period around the 30th it's the 29th and no cramps or anything like normal, I'm scared, and worried.

kristal, 5/28/2009 2:12:13 PM
OMG!

Jane, 5/28/2009 5:10:01 PM
To all non-catholic

I would just to say how disappointed I am in the lack empathy shown to the brave naïve girls how have volunteered their religious background when looking for help. When a young girl says she is catholic she is trying to say a lot with very few words.

One: She does not feel that she can approach the older females in her community, INCLUDING THEIR MOMS, AND AUNTS MUCH LESS THEIR GRANDMOTHERS. Some catholic have taken the no birthcontrol to the extreme and deny or make it shameful for young girl to get information abut their own body

Two: She might not have been allowed to sit threw sex-ed and is not clear on many basic details.

Three: She might only know the basic but still has more question and doesn’t know where to start looking or know which of her many questions to ask first. The question maybe range from something as practical as tampon or pads, douching, and shaving how to cope with PMS to more individual and personal

Four: She would like some more real information other than the rumors she hears from her friends.

Unfortanitly is say this because I grew up in a home where talking about anything that was remotely sexual was shameful. My Grandmother would not tolerate well and my mother herself only started getting better information when she when back to school but that was still no help for me because now I am 24 and embarrassed but lucky to have a boyfriend who know more about a woman’s personal hygiene than me.

To those girl in similar situation May I suggest when you ask your Dr or School nurse make it clear you have tried to talk to someone else but are not sure abut the accuracy of the answers you got. When dr. hear this they really start paying more attention because
one of their pet peeves if been treated like a talking encyclopedia. And keep checking the chat room you never know when someone will say something useful

TeTe, 5/29/2009 4:16:19 PM
i started my peroid when i was 13 (on my birthday),and my peroids would last me 7 days so i went to my school clinic and they put me on birth control..now it only last 4 5 days and my cramps are so bad now wat should i do now?!

Confussed, 5/30/2009 4:45:02 PM
I just stopped taking my BCP and started spotting on my ovulation date. That was on the 19th. My husband and I had sex this day, which he came in me (we want to try to have a baby). These last two days I have been starting to feel really tired and have had minor headaches. The other day I felt a little dizzy. Does this mean I might be in that percentage of females that get pregnant while first coming off their PCP? I'm wondering if it did come happen? When should I take a test to see if Iam really pregnant?

Reenee, 6/4/2009 11:39:44 PM
okay, so i dont know my period schedule but i usually have one every month and they last for about 4 days.

i didnt have my period last month, ive been exhausted [way more than usual] like i'll wake up and a few hours later i'll be sleepy again. ive been overly emotional and ive been having mood swings like crazy. and ive been having light cramping. i mean VERY light: theyll only last for about 5 minutes and its only happened like twice since my missed period.

im so scared that i might be pregnant which is something i DONT want or need right now cuz im only 16.

if i am prego,im sorry, but i want an abortion. but my boyfriend[who would be teh father] is against it. plus i dont think i would be ready for an abortion emotionally...

i dont know what to do, any advice??

ma, 6/5/2009 1:01:04 PM
reenee,
if you do not get your period this month get a pregnancy test done. don't just go by symptoms. those symptoms are also signs of pms not just pregnancy. (im a mom of 1 and have also had an abortion) it is your choice if you want an abortion. if you decide to go through with it there are TONS of places you can get help emotionally.

june, 6/5/2009 1:45:10 PM

Lexi, 6/8/2009 6:09:41 PM
ok, so i have been getting my period for about 2 years now and since it always seems to come at the wrong time i wanted to try tampons but i tried and it didn;t work. i know this sounds stupid but i didn't know exactly where to put it.....any suggestions?

michelle, 6/8/2009 9:51:38 PM
may i suggest to read the instructions for putting on a tampon.

btw, you put it in your vagina

patty, 6/9/2009 2:34:24 PM
my period has been lasting 2week for the past 3 months is there something wrong with me.

Amy, 6/11/2009 5:38:14 PM
I'm reading these comments and at age 45 am hearing a lot of girls are having trouble using tampons. I did and I had to have the hymen removed. I went to my ob/gyn when I was 17 and he removed it. It was a simple procedure and then I could use tampons, a true change of life experience! Those pads are for the birds......
Another thing, even at my age, I get worried about lots of things being wrong with my body but that's why I have a doctor that I know and trust and every girl/woman should feel that way. Go find someone to talk to even if you don't think they will care, someone will and you will be able to release some of the fear of whatever! Be safe and enjoy your sexual experiences.........

Becca, 6/15/2009 9:43:29 PM
tampons are a great alternitive i love using them cuz like you dont feel like ur peeing on ur self

Hayden , 6/21/2009 12:31:48 PM

vanessa, 6/25/2009 9:09:13 AM
Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is an illness caused by rare bacteria which occurs mostly in menstruating women who are using high absorbency tampons. google it and you can find out more info.

IT WAS CRAZY I WOULD CRY BECAUSE I WANTED IT...i got cramps for a week and woke up and all i was thinking is what happened to my underwear!! lol, but honestly your period is kinda a HUGE pain in the butt!!

Vickie, 6/29/2009 2:40:44 AM
For those of you older women you will enjoy this---- LOL I'm 23 and someone told my husband that you ovulate 2 weeks (14 days) after your period ENDS!... Not true... according to the chart its 14 days after it begins... so because my periods are 7-8 days long (I know, I'm blessed right?), and we had you know what a few or so days after that.......Lets just put it this way.. I'm really LATE and that's why I looked this calander up in the first place!! We already have 1 kid! DON'T YA JUST LOVE THE [WRONG] FACTS MEN COME UP WITH?... I'm trusting google from now on!

Lauren, 6/29/2009 6:15:36 PM
Is ovulation the time when you can't get pregnent? If not, then when is that time? Bc one of my friends told me theres like a 3 day time you can't...?

Perpetaul, 7/1/2009 7:02:36 AM
I had my period starting from the 6th of June 2009 - 9th of June 2009, then i slept with my boyfriend on the 27th, 28th and 29th without condom, could i be pregant. Pls advice me

andrea, 7/2/2009 12:15:36 PM
I've been having my period for 14 years now and no one really told me about having a mentrual cycles so I had to learn on my own and from others and just because you have a period that doesn't make you woman it makes you a young lady the next step to woman hood
im five days late on my period and I took a pregnancy test and it came up negative I still might be pregnant though........

Pam, 7/6/2009 10:06:05 AM
Ovulation is the time you CAN get pregnant. Technically that is the 13 to 15th day of your cycle. (The first day of your period is the first day of your cycle). If you are young you may have a shorter cylce and having two periods in a month is not abnormal. Your body will settle into one cylce a month after the first few years.

Perpetaul, you should never have unprotected sex!!!! Our cycles are just too unpredictable for that! I mean, there is no absolute way to say for sure when you are ovulating so DON"T count days.

My married friend told me that she got pregnant three times when she hadn't planned to just because she had sex on days that she thought she wasn't ovulating.

K.P., 7/12/2009 11:12:13 PM
For June: If you're losing too much weight you won't have a period and that's dangerous. Your period is a vital sign so make sure that you are weighing enough for your age a height. If you do, than just wait for it to come again. Ever since I started my period it has never been regular! :) Good luck!

Madeline, 7/20/2009 2:28:15 PM
i started reading down the list of comments and i found a couple things funny.. religion, virginity, whether you eat this or that
you are still going to get your period, and at the beginning it can be embarassing because you can be totally clueless as to whats going on but once you get used to it you find that its normal.. ive been using pads for 2 1/2 years now and i occasionally try a tampon. i prefer a pad for being home while a tampon comes in use so tht you can still wear a skirt during your menstruating days.
OH by the way !
lets say (because some girls are to shy to mention an embarassing moment its fine) guys are really curious as much as they deny.. so when a guy decides to snoop around in your bag and finds a tamp. or a pad and of course starts laughing, dont take it in a bad way.. just let him know that hes not attractive by being immature ;)

mmm, 8/16/2009 1:15:53 PM

Bailey, 10/12/2009 2:47:50 PM
Hi all, i am 32 and Iv'e had seven children in the past eight years, my period has been normal after five of the children. But after i came home from having my twin boys (numbers 6 and 7) my period has been very irregular. My doctor told me this is normal. So I guess it's normal to be irregular after pregnancy.
Most of you will think seven kids! She's crazy, but Iv'e wanted to be a mommy since i was little! My husband loves the way I look Pregnant. And I totally totally disagree with abortion!

busi, 11/5/2009 7:36:20 AM
hi bailey u really lucky yo have 7 kids don't worry abt ur periods wat matters is that u are happy with wat u got becoz not all parents can get that love
